THE END OF THE MUGHAL EMPIRE
Shah Jahan's building sprees drained the treasury and left the Mughal Empire vulnerable.
Aurangzeb
Aurangzeb, Shah Jahan's son, ruled from 1658 to 1707. He pushed south into the Deccan Plateau, ruling with an iron fist. The drained treasury couldn't support the army, so there were many more rebellions. Aurangzeb spent the last 25 years of his life stomping out rebellions.
The British East India Company
Suprisingly the death blow to the Mughals did not come from natives or Muslim invaders, but the British East India Co. They had the unusual distinction of ruling British India until 1837.
