THE GEOGRAPHY OF INDIA
A Diverse Land
Many invaders were deterred by the formidable Hindu Kush, but attracted to the fertile Ganges floodplain. The Hindu Kush was a high barrier, but there was a small pass called the Khyber Pass that was used time after time to invade India. To the south is the Deccan (Dekaan) Plateau. Few, if any, invaders cared to go farther south than the Vindhya Mountains.
